Such a beautifully written book. I'm using this as reading material when I go to Adoration, and I only read a little at a time. It's a short read, so I'm taking my time with it. For a busy homeschooling mom, I'm finding this is giving me inspiration to find the time for inner prayer with the Jesus prayer even during the chaos of daily life. Great for any age; this might now be my go-to Confirmation gift.

I recommend this title to anyone who wants deep from the heart prayer to Jesus. I also highly recommend this book to anyone who is currently gathering in a religious community or are also part of a led prayer group with a Catechist or spiritual retreat leader. A most challenging book in committing one self to the prayer life, however this commitment will lead the reader to a fruitful encounter in inner peace and desire to joy. I find nothing negative in its approach and wisdom other than a couple of typos

I really did not care for this translation, but it was the cheapest for Kindle and I wanted to at least have it. This is quite possibly, the most important book one will ever read, if one is determined to chase and tackle God Himself. I would recommend a better translation but for those on a budget, this will do with the following caveats:1. It's a prayer rope. It is NOT a rosary. There is an enormous difference - a rosary is made in a certain fashion to facilitate Roman Catholic prayers and practice. A prayer rope, a chotki, (komboskini in Greek) is different. It is designed exclusively for "the prayer of the heart" also called the Jesus Prayer. The distinction is important due to the differences in theology between Roman Catholics and the Orthodox (Russian, Greek, Serbian, etc.) In this, form MUST follow function. It is unavoidable and the person who says it does not matter, is in error, on either side.2. In general, the average layperson should only seek unceasing prayer under the direct guidance of a confessor or spiritual father/mother. It is not something to be entered into lightly or flippantly. It is a covenant one makes with God - such covenants are holy and sacred. If you are tempted to do this make certain you are committed for the rest of your life, and that you are quite literally prepared to die for your faith. This is the kind of commitment that the Prayer of Jesus requires. "He who looks back from the plow is not worthy of Me...." Remember that.3. This version does not include the other half of the text, and this of course makes the book incomplete. But it is a starting point to whet the appetite.Enjoy. A timeless classic and very much appreciated the opportunity to simply have it in electronic form at an affordable price.

It may well serve as an introduction to Russian Orthodox spiritual practice and, incidentally, an answer to the question, "How can St. Paul really expect people to pray without ceasing?".

There are far better translations of this wonderful book. The entire story is based on St. Paul’s exhortation for us to “pray without ceasing”, which she inexplicably and unnecessarily translates into “pray incessantly”. I put it down and bought another translation.

When you pick up this book, you will not put it down for you are taking this spiritual journey with the author. He will take you to this holy spiritual journey by holding your heart and hands -- I cried with my heart and soul by reading this little book. It is so beautifuly and honestly described the journey he took; and it will touch your soul; you will be dying to meet the author in heaven; but the Auther is unknown. We will meet him in the heaven, and our goon God will take us to him and show him to us...

My favorite Japan travel guide of the 3 guide books I bought. The lonely planet one is the best. I could probably just have gotten this guide. It's is incredibly large and covers A LOT, but it doesn't go into much depth as the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide and it doesn't has as many photos. I'm OK with that since I plan to be seeing the places I want to go to and don't need many photos. If you don't plan to see all of Japan I would recommend getting a smaller city or area guide because this guide can be a bit overwhelming because of it's size and breath of topics. Overall a great guide and probably the one to get if you only buy one guide.First Choice: Lonely Planet JapanTied for Second Choice: DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Japan or Japan by RailIf you like a very photo rich guide that goes more into the culture and history of Japan then DK Eyewitness Travel Japan may be better for you. If you will be focused on rail travel and staying in rail serviced cities, Japan by Rail is very good. No other guide covers the rail system better and how to use it than Japan by Rail.

I have been to Japan five times and this book has been a constant companion. The updated version is even better. As a Black American I have found the Japanese people warm and welcoming. Lonely Planet Japan makes the trips better each time.

This book is very thick and kind of heavy so I wouldn’t carry it around with me on a trip but it does have a lot of useful information about the country and it has been great for planning my trip to Japan later this year. This book has sights to see, places to stay and how to get around Japan. I was nervous to make this purchase because there was quite a few reviews that weren’t great but I’m glad I went for it. If you’re looking for something easy to carry all day long this isn’t your book but if you’re looking to gain some knowledge and plan your trip this is a great tool.

This is a wonderful guide with a massive amount of information, but designed so the information isn’t overwhelming. The book breaks down the top places to go in different areas of Japan and tells you which rail lines to take, how much it costs, and how much time it will take, among other things. There are tips peppered throughout the book that are actually really helpful, like daily itineraries, extra information on top places to see, tips on using the different transportation systems, etc. There’s even a whole section in the back on the initial travel planning for airlines, visas, language, etc. One thing that makes this guide stand out to me is that it’s easy to read and get the information you need, and it’s not a dry read; the authors really included their own perspective which makes it feel more real.Overall, this seems to be a really well organized, information packed guide to Japan travel.I would give this a 5 star, but I’m taking one off because the book I received looked like someone had already been reading through it: there were some bends on the corners of the cover, the binding was loose like it had been used before unlike a new book that’s a little stiff, and the Tokyo map included had been torn out already though it was still in between the pages and hadn’t fallen out which was good. Absolutely not a deal breaker, but just a bit surprising and odd to get a new book in that condition.

While this is a thick book, it has an immense collection of raw and useful information that you can only recieve from experience. This book is full of maps, travel info, local guides, itineraries, great food info, passes that can give you discounts, etc. Also has a bit of cultural and language guidance. The previous negative review are irrelevant especially because some appeared before the books release. We also bought the japanese language pocket guide from lonely planet. Very helpful.

Lonly Planet has lost it: their guides used to be witty and funny and rich in cultural background and history, they would tell you not only how to get there but WHY in the first place. History section used to be multiple pages, so that later you could connect the dots to a particular period. Now there is nothing. Take Hiroshima, the city blurb is ...10 lines, no history beyond the obvious reference to the A bomb, some pablum about a "vibrant cosmipolitan city with leavy boulevards", that's it!LP became a guide for the idiot traveler.

The best travel books. If you plan to travel alone, or with friends but nothing organized, Lonely Planet is the best of the best. mainly because their social attitude, their understanding of the endless need for vital information. During the last five years we have used Lonely planet everywhere we go., they were always right, almost always exact and highly informative
