Please note that this review contains several spoilers in relation to the first hour of the film's plot.I purchased this book after seeing the film twice, under the assumption that in reading the screenplay, I would understand a few pertinent plot points I missed in my first two viewings. In this respect, this purchase has more than served its purpose.INTERSTELLAR is definitely not for everyone. The film requires commitment to both thought and time, and therefore will not be to everyone's liking, including some devoted fans of the science fiction genre.I will admit I have an affinity for films that require multiple viewings for the observer to digest. I am no genius, but I was frankly amazed at how much of Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR I did understand during my first viewing. When I saw it a second time, I was equally amazed at how much I'd missed, and how beautifully it all came together. I would not say that INTERSTELLAR requires a degree in quantum physics or an understanding of Einstein's theory of relativity, but they sure would be helpful. Yet it turns out that the underlying theme of INTERSTELLAR is nothing more than an exploration of the power of love and what makes us human. After my first viewing, I emerged from the theater with many questions, yet I had the feeling (and still do) that INTERSTELLAR is perhaps the greatest science fiction film ever made and even possibly the best film I have ever seen of any genre. I do not make these statements lightly. And as far as the script is concerned, reading this book has deepened my understanding of the plot, and thus enhanced my enjoyment tremendously. I am a film buff who enjoys many different types of movies, but Sci-fi, drama and fantasy are perhaps my favorites. INTERSTELLAR employs elements of each.The first hour or so of the film can be summarized thusly: Cooper (Mathew McConaughey) is a former NASA space pilot living in the near future, where a large-scale disaster (there are hints that it may have been climate change or even a nuclear war) has killed off much of the Earth's population, and left the planet unable to sustain life for more than one more generation. Dust storms blanket the planet and crops fail constantly. One by one many crops have become history and corn is all that can be grown.Cooper's daughter Murph and son Tom are above average students, but like other young people, they are encouraged to study farming to help sustain the dwindling food supply. Murph complains of poltergeists in her room and is soon attempting to decode cryptic messages that appear in the dust near her bookcase. When she and her dad discover that one of the messages contains geographic coordinates in binary numbers, they set out to discover what they may at that location.What they find is a secret NASA complex presided over by Professor Brand (Michael Caine) who is trying desperately to save the species by discovering a new, habitable planet while simultaneously exploring the possibility of launching a massive space station to receive Earth's doomed people. We soon learn that a crew of explorers has already been sent into a wormhole near Saturn. The wormhole opens into another galaxy, where several potentially viable planets await. Professor Brand convinces Cooper to leave his family and pilot a spacecraft into the wormhole, while he (Professor Brand) works on a problem concerning the space station. Cooper is accompanied on his mission by Brand's daughter (Anne Hathaway) and a crew of two more astronauts, plus two robots called Tars and Case. Murph doesn't want her father to leave, because she understands that he will not be back for many years, if at all. Believe it or not, this is only the beginning. Be warned that the movie runs a hefty two hours and forty-nine minutes, all of which require sustained attention to absorb the film's myriad details.With INTERSTELLAR, Christopher Nolan has fashioned nothing less than a modern classic, a film by which I believe future space sci-fi films may be measured. Of course, it is not apparent in the script, but the music, by Hans Zimmer, is breathtaking, and so effective as to draw the viewer directly into the story. The visual effects are stunning and the drama intense. All together, they make for a highly potent and entertaining film. During the final 45 minutes, I found myself in tears several times, particularly at the climax.I enjoyed my first screening of the film so much that I did something I think I've never done before - I went back to see it again the very next day. The second viewing was even more rewarding and helped to answer many of the questions I had after my first screening. While I did not understand it all the first time around (an understatement if ever there was one) I did understand enough to know that I was viewing something beyond extraordinary. My purchase of the screenplay bolstered my opinion of this work tremendously.The second half of the book contains a generous sampling of selected storyboards. They were also quite enjoyable. One of the highlights of the book, however, is a fascinating conversation with Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan.Highly recommended.
I've been reading lots of screenplays lately to study what great film screenplays read like. Pulp Fiction, Good Will Hunting, Scream, and others are required reading for those that want to learn from great films. This is the screenplay for "Interstellar," which come from the minds of brothers Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan. With their combined resumes, I thought it was worth a look into how their writing translates into the finished product.— SCREENPLAY —This is a 1" thick paperback. with the first half being the screenplay, and the second half for storyboards from the film. If you're already familiar with screenplay language, then you'll know what to expect here. A good screenplay will have you imagining a movie very closely to what ends up on screen.— STORYBOARDS —The storyboards are pencil sketches of select scenes in the film. They are semi-detailed sketches with clear direction as to how the final shot will be composed and if there are any camera movements required.— SUMMARY —This is another great screenplay book, with the bonus of the storyboards, for those that are looking to study these things. Recommended.

About the Author
Rumi was a 13th-century Persian Muslim poet, jurist, theologian, and Sufi mystic. Maryam Mafi was born and raised in Iran. She went to Tufts University in the U.S. in 1977 where she studied Sociology and Literature. While reading for her Master's degree in International Communications at American and Georgetown Universities she began translating Persian literature and has been doing so ever since. Not enough amazing or beautiful things are said of the wonderful guru rumi. But oh, how I love and admire his work. One of my favorites by him is the guest house. It is, of course in this book! (Page 16!)I bought this book not only because I find his work intriguing and thought provoking, but because I really enjoy reading them outloud to my students at the end of the yoga classes I teach. It's always so wonderful to finish reading some of his work and watch the faces illuminate with understanding. This book is small and can fit in most purses. If you enjoy poetry, or are looking to add to a class, I highly recommend this book. I do not write many book reviews, but just had to let Amazon reviewers/shoppers know that this is worth every penny.
I received this book as a gift. Rumi is my second favorite poet after Robert Frost. Rumi's mind and poetry is as fresh in today's world as it was in Persia and the Middle East over eight hundred years ago.i thought the translation was good and easy to understand. I in turn ordered it as a gift and the bookseller in Florida did a superb job of packaging the book and on time delivery.
I am not a poetry's books fan at all, however, the other day I was watching a tv show and they quoted one of Rumi's poems and I loved it! So I immediately ordered this book and I started reading it as soon as I received it. Every single poem is beautiful, deep, spiritual, relatable, sensitive, moving, timeless and rhythmical!They say that there's a time for everything and this was the perfect time for me to fall in love with Rumi's poetry!

Andrea Fereshteh is a native of the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, where she grew up climbing all the trees in her yard and hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains. This book is so beautifully written and the pictures are breathtaking. It’s written in such a way that it’s easy to pick up and read for a few minutes, or for an hour. I’ve learned so much about the history, origin and value of so many trees and forests that I didnt even know existed. It has opened my eyes to the absolute wonder of trees and what gifts they bring to the earth. It would make a beautiful housewarming gift, birthday present, etc. I’m buying 2 more copies today to give away to friends!
This book is SUCH a refreshing escape from reality TV and the news and just gadgets in general. I love rituals and traditions and folklore and this book is a treasure trove of information about the things we pass every day without a second thought-- trees! The pictures are incredible and the author was able to cherry-pick (pun intended) out just enough to share what's special without getting too technical. You can pick it up anytime, take a few deep breaths and escape to every corner of the earth and learn about how people have always and should always show trees reverence. Love this!

This is a beautifully written book with exquisite pictures that draw you in to nature. I am inspired to visit the locations described in Fereshteh's book and feel enlightened with more knowledge about the trees around me!

While this book's beautiful photographs reveal the unique appearance and wonder of some of the world's trees, it is Fereshteh's words that give the book its essence. Detailed within are interesting stories of some of the most well-known and most obscure trees and forests on Earth. Fereshteh's anecdotes are more than just stories though- they speak to symbolism and religion, art and tradition. This book is a great campaign buddy, as gives the reader excellent descriptions of underdark terrain and geography. When narrating an underground campaign, there are only so many variations of 'a cave,' or 'a tunnel,' that one can describe before the action gets tedious for the players. With this supplement, you get a range of interesting features, hazards, and ecologies to give it a more natural feel, for those of us with no real-life spelunking experience. Beyond that, it gives the usual WotC bundle of feats, PrC's, races, and spells. Most of this material is mediocre, but I still give the book 5*'s for being the only dungeoneering book out there that gives such a rich 'how-to' guide for making underground travel rich and interesting.
I am trying to collect all of the Forgotten Realms 3.X products, so this was a must have for me. But, I think if you weren't planning a large arc of a campaign in the Underdark, this book would not be for me. If you are a collector or if you want a great Underdark backdrop for your Forgotten Realms campaign, than this book is second to none.
This book has about 50 good pages when they're talking about exploration and ecology of pretty much any entirely underground environment, underdark or just really dark. Some of the monsters -- undead swarm? kuo-toa leviathan? -- are also pretty nifty, though most aren't that great. The usual spattering of new magic, races, feats, and prestige classes are marginal and probably not worth the bother of inlcuding in your game, espeically if you're not building a new excluisively underdark campaign. The regional info is where this book really disappointed me -- they did cross-marketing with the War of the Spider Queen series, inserting spoilers for book #3 right in the middle of a rulebook. (I'd already read it, was disappointed with it, and even more disappointed when most of the plot advances were summarized with two paragraphs.) This cross-marketing during Lolth's silence made the "Arachnomancer" prestige class stand out as spectatularly dumb -- either the regional information is wrong or that PrC is really pretty de-valued from the get-go; either way you're shelling out money for both the PrC and the regional info. But the information on the ecology of the underdark is why I got my copy of this book. I just can't recommend that anybody pay full price.
Great for underdark campaigns - hope my DM/experience doesn't color this review! Underdark can be a great place to adventure.

I'm sorry but it's unfair to give 'Underdark' such a low rating. For those who don't play in the Forgotten Realms then it may be less useful--about 1/3 of the book relates to locales beneath the lands of the Forgotten Realms--but there's more to the book than that. There are new pretige classes (such as the deep diviner) and some revised ones (such as the archnemancer), plus some new feats. Some of the feats were included from other sources(such as "highborn drow") while others were warmed-over and given a new name, but there are some decent new ones. The concept of node-magic is introduced, which I liked. The playability of certain races (such as the kuo-toa and grimlocks) were expanded. Naturally, new PC races like the gloaming were included. And the new magic section had some interesting bits, such as the 'drowcraft' magic property (which brings back a bit of the old-style drow flavor to the setting--if you missed seeing drow-made weapons turn to dust in the sunlight you're in luck!). Also if you're a gamer who's chafed at the limits of teleportation in the sunless regions, the limitation's been relaxed somewhat so only Underdark areas with pockets of 'faerzress' radiation hinders teleportation/divination-based spells. This isn't a 5-star book except where production values are concerned, but I feel that 'Underdark' as a whole rates at least a 3 (for non-FR gamers) or 4 (FR gamer) rating.

This book is rather large and the text covers pages from top to bottom & side to side, and by having to hold it close to read, it leads to a more intimate journal-reading experience. After all, Amundsen is a terrific writer, spontaneous and never writing for effect, who seems inherently positive and as a result this is a very relaxing and entertaining read. Having read books by other authors about the journeys of both Scott and Amundsen to the South Pole, I found it very refreshing to read the author's original log-based biography of his amazing experiences. This would be a great book to take on vacation, because it puts you in an entirely different place & time. My take is also that this story involves a lot of "emotional intelligence" in the way that the entire crew worked together towards the main goal. One reads again and again about how members of the shore party had brought along secondary skills which over time became more apparent and useful to the entire group's well-being. Amundsen's attention to detail in all things including the quality of the food they brought and the technological improvements to skis and bindings are awesome. One more example are the walking boots, which underwent four reconstructions from the originals, during the time before the pole attempt. R. F. Scott's pole team - unfortunately for them - had no such footwear equivalents, and paid a heavy price as a result.
Amazing account of Amundsen's (being the first) reaching The South Pole in 1911. Much is taken from the diaries of the men involved who were very good at detailing their day to day challenges. Men of this caliber are a rarity today.
